Rachelle's Place

My career path tends to work towards some sort of goal, even if I haven't consciously decided upon one.

This happened before I went to Nicaragua, and volunteered with adults with disabilities doing Yoga, at a centre for grieving children, and in Sunday School. The option of oversees work that appealed to me became work in an orphanage with children with disabilities.

Now, I feel myself doing the same. Last semester I took a class on Administration. Our teacher happened to be the Director of Operations of the organisation I work for. While writing assignments for that class, I made up a Daycare called Rachelle's Place and another called Ruth's Place. The later would be my mom's Daycare, as she is an ECE as well and worked for many years in children's mental health and for a few years, as a supervisor.

Since I have my BSc in general science, this is something that clearly interests me. I took a placement at a "science" Daycare. Unfortunately I became disappointed in the amount and type of science they had. The science table, for example, was so near the front door, that the area was high traffic and for some part of the day unusable. They used the program "Wings of Discovery", which is an amazing program to teach science. However, I felt they lacked in all other areas of science discovery. Recently I met someone who worked at that Daycare and she informed me administration let the supervisor go.

I believe that is my current long-term goal: starting a Science Daycare. My friend and I were talking about it. She just got her teacher's diploma in science and when I told her about that idea, she wanted to join me. I told her I was many years away from that and I needed to learn a lot more about the field and perhaps even become a supervisor as well, before embarking on that adventure. So, we will see.
