Children have rights too!
This is the UN Rights of the Child poster. This includes everything teachers and educators should practice when working with children. It includes the right of the child to play and rest (article 31).
Reading over these rights, one of them (#3) reminded me of todays discussion with a parent. One of the boys got picked up by his mom today and she told me it was his last day. I was sad to hear that news and asked him for a hug.
"Will you visit us?"
"Yes"
As his mom held back tears, she said switching school was a difficult decision to make. He loves going to our daycare and wanted to still attend, even though they live on the other side of town now. His parents made the decision for him to go to another school.
I said to him "Sometimes change is difficult at first, but usually you end up liking the new place." I hope he will enjoy it as much or more than he enjoyed his time with us.
I will miss him.
